New York, New York, where anything feels possible. It’s an iconic city ingrained in memory from film, where the steam rises from vents and buildings tower over you. It’s Central Park, Wall Street, The Statue of Liberty, yellow cabs, I♥NY , it’s Staten Island and Brooklyn and the Big Apple. Endless energy 24/7, where every cliché of the city plays out before you. It’s inspiring whilst at the same time being slightly intimidating, it’s fast paced, loud, and yet a place where you instantly feel connection with.
And so, it was in the heart of, a slightly snowy, Manhattan at the Mandarin Oriental, with panoramic views of Central Park and the New York cityscape that I found myself in February 2024 having been invited to support the wonderful Suzie Turner with a pop-up wedding couture event.
Although we had been aware of each other and admirers of our crafts for quite some time, I finally had the pleasure of meeting Suzie in London in November 2023 when she attended the launch of Renaissance By Yevnig at Spencer House. We immediately connected and she started setting the scene for the incredible event she was planning in the US.
It really didn’t take long for me to make my decision, a chance to visit a city that I hadn’t yet ventured to, connect with the Mandarin Oriental New York team, and meet wedding industry professionals and influencers… the answer was a resounding yes!
The Cake
As with all By Yevnig designs, I was delighted to create a bespoke luxury cake to fit the occasion. Basing the design on the showstopper, ‘Princess Grace’, that Suzie had fallen in love with at Renaissance By Yevnig, this design was a classic 5-tier in ivory white Royal icing, adored with decorative detailing.
Hand-crafted sugar roses in blush pink and ivory, dotted with hydrangea petals wrapped around the base of the cake was mirrored by the bouquet which sat at the top.
Each tier was decorated with hand-piped and decorative detailing, featuring delicate flowers, gilded bows, floral motifs, swags, and half-daisy decorations referencing the fan of the Mandarin Oriental logo.
Not only was this cake situated in amongst the beautiful couture bridal and evening gowns, the backdrop of the city skyline was equally breathtaking.

Working with the finest fabrics, sourced from around the globe, such as silk organza, duchess satin, elegant French Chantilly lace and Swarovski crystal, every stitch is meticulously perfected to ensure that each garment is flawlessly tailored to their client’s individual specifications.

Host to the leaders in the New York wedding and events industry, influencers and media, the team at The Mandarin Oriental pulled out all the stops for an exquisite opening evening.
